T'is the Season for Royal Watching

Festivities at the nation's capital were taken up a notch this Canada Day and NOT just because Great Big Sea was playing again. No, the big draw for the 300,000 flag waving patriots was the chance to see the newlyweds, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

They began their North American visit in Ottawa and today, landed in Prince Edward Island where my friend Kevin, played hookey to get this photo of the couple as they enjoyed a horse-drawn carriage ride around Charlottetown. Such excitement!

So what is it about the royals that makes us stand at attention? What does this young couple represent to the public that they would interrupt their daily routine just for the possibility of see what Kate is wearing or Will flash his smile? Are they more than a passing fancy?

I'd love to hear your comments. They have captured the hearts of people all over the world, but you are in MY world and your thoughts are important to me so, tell me, what does the royal couple mean to you?

God Save the Queen.

  1. Is it that we imagine ourselves living a royal's life? What I find compelling is the long history, lineage and genealogy that is so well known and richly storied, for good and for bad. Among many people's greatest wishes as they mature, shall we say, is to be able to talk to their grandparents again and ask what life was like, what they remember, their words of wisdom. Many people also long to know more about their family history, even as little as their ancestors' names. For the British Royal Family, it is all laid out for all to see in recorded history. How amazing is that? I was fortunate enough to know all of my grandparents for 20 years and my maternal grandmother is still living and able to share stories of her younger years. What a blessing they have been to me.
The appeal of history and your family, what it is that, in part, makes you who you are, why you look the way you do, it is these things that draw us to what the Duke and Duchess represent. History and tradition, and a little bit of fabulous wealth, glamour and celebrity thrown in for good measure. Those are my thoughts. \Love that photo!
